Welcome to the Alliance Française de la Péninsule de Monterey.
The Alliance Française de la Péninsule de Monterey is a non-profit corporation devoted to promoting the use and knowledge of the French language and the appreciation of French culture. Membership is open to all who are interested in the goals of the organization.
Throughout the seasons the Alliance organizes social and cultural events in French. These include lectures by prominent speakers on subjects dealing with French life, art, and literature, programs of French songs and music, and monthly luncheons where members can converse in French in a convivial atmosphere.
A particular goal of the Alliance is to encourage the study of French in the area by awarding scholarships and prizes to outstanding students of the language. Funds for this purpose come from donations received at monthly afternoon teas sponsored by the Alliance, and by receipts from other
fund-raising events.
The Alliance Française de la Peninsule de Monterey is affiliated with The Federation of French Alliances of the United States and,through that organization, with the Alliance Française de Paris.
Part of the annual membership dues goes to support the national Federation. These connections make available to our members French books and periodicals. They aid us in engaging outstanding lecturers and artists for our cultural programs, and in providing prizes and medals for our student program.
Each year the Federation organizes a national French contest, open to all high school and college students sponsored by affiliated groups. Students sponsored by our group have won top prizes in this contest.
No matter what your degree of expertise in the French language — beginner, advanced, or native speaker — we are sure you will find good fellowship and programs to interest you as a member of the Alliance Française.
