There is that small bristle of anxiety when we hear that yet another school system or university has decided to remove French from their curriculum. How could they? We all share a certain love for the language that Polly Platt always described as being, “An honor to speak French”. She goes on: “All through school the intricacies and subtleties, the richness and profundities of French and the brilliance of French writers are relentlessly, rigorously drummed into the pupil by his teachers and the books of the writers themselves, extolling the virtues of this gift of the gods they are privileged to call their own”.
We are still carrying on those traditions, albeit in a different measure. We have watched the metamorphosis of the Alliance Francaise “system” over the years, and we adapt to the times and the ongoing wish of our students around the world that wish to “share the passion of the French” for their language.
As we enter this 21st Century, E-Learning is a watchword for the future. The Federation is committed to the development of this virtual classroom experience. And, having said the words, we add to our already stretched budget the need to find development funds, acquire software licensing, and bring to reality this new step to teaching French with the application of best online teaching practices.
