French Culture
From its founding, a primary mission of the Federation has been to help member AFs promote French culture in the United States and to further cross-cultural understanding.
Each Alliance typically schedules several Annual Events such as Bastille Day festivities and French Films festivals which are open to the community. Throughout the year, many AF chapters also schedule a variety of French and francophone speakers and programs, that the Cultural Offerings a la Carte lists. Small group activities, such as Cercle de Lecture, travel discussions, video nights, and regional celebrations (e.g., an evening in Provence) also help deepen understanding of French culture.
Alliance Française Reading Groups take many forms: book clubs, conversation hours, café littéraire. "One Book - One Federation" is the AF national book club, which selects one book a year which all AFs are encouraged to read.
As part of their cultural mission, some of the larger AFs have established Libraries of French books, films and recordings.
