Language Classes - French Instruction
The Alliance Française is known around the world for the quality of its French instruction. Courses focus on communication and are taught in French by French native speakers using French teaching materials. Alliances in the United States offer many types of courses: adult language classes and children's classes, as well as a variety of other language offerings, including conversation classes, immersion days, private lessons, and teacher workshops. Check with your local Alliance to see what types of classes they propose.
Test Centers
Some Alliances act as test centers for standard French language tests that have been developed in France for use around the world.
Every year the Federation cooperates with the Délégation Générale in Washington in sponsoring the AF Concours National de Français and takes the initiative for offering book prizes. The contest, which is open to secondary school and university students as well as to students taking AF classes, is administered every spring by participating chapters.
In addition to the Concours, many AFs around the country have developed their own community outreach programs whereby they promote French language study at the local level.
The Federation provides education support to its member AFs through the work of its Education Committee and the many pedagogy sessions which it organizes for the Annual Meeting.
Additional support for French language classes is available from French Government sources and American language associations.
