Kansas City, here we come!
Kansas City is a metropolitan area of 2 million people that constantly surprises first-time visitors with its cosmopolitan flair, beauty and vitality. It’s an energetic city forged by a rich history that offers eclectic cuisine, swinging jazz, one-of-a-kind museums, a thriving arts scene and fantastic shopping.
World-famous barbecue: The city’s signature food is served up at more than 100 barbecue establishments, each boasting its own personal house specialty. The secret to KC-style barbecue is that it’s slow smoked for up to 18 hours, usually over hickory.
City of fountains: Kansas City is home to more than 200 fountains — more than any other city in the world except Rome. From large and majestic to small and whimsical, discover waterworks dedicated to fallen firefighters, the city’s children, women’s leadership and more.
Rich jazz history: Since the early 1900s, Kansas City has been synonymous with jazz. Today, those jazz roots still run deep and the genre is as vibrant here as ever, fueling more than 40 jazz venues on a regular basis.
National World War I Museum and Memorial: The convention will feature a special event at the museum, which is currently commemorating the centennial of the Great War. Tours will also be available.
Named Missouri’s most beautiful hotel by Architectural Digest, Hotel Phillips is an iconic landmark with an illustrious past. Opened in 1931, this downtown Kansas City hotel was once the tallest building in town, standing 20 stories high and boasting 400 guest rooms. Today, Hotel Phillips offers 216 elegant guest rooms, yet maintains much of the historic charm and original Art Deco features which make it a true gem in the heart of downtown.
An art lover’s paradise, Hotel Phillips, now part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, offers beauty around every corner. Original Art Deco features include elaborate bronze and nickel metalwork, lustrous walnut paneling, stylish light fixtures, 20-story mail chute, and the goddess Dawn statue overlooking the lobby. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Who attends the Annual Convention?
The Annual Convention is open to any member of an Alliance Française that is a Federation chapter member. Federation members are welcome to send directors and other staff members as well as board members. Sometimes Alliances send one primary representative, while occasionally as many as eight people from one Alliance attend. The convention is a great motivator for both board and staff members to share information with like-minded individuals from throughout the nation.
The Délégation Générale will be holding its Réunion des Directors on Thursday, October 25. This meeting, conducted in French, is open to representatives from any U.S. Alliance Française chapter. For more information, please contact Nelly Sadoun, Déléguée Générale, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (202) 944 6261.
